US Law Firms in Wikidata by State (2026)

If your firm isn't in the knowledge graph, you're not in the answer. When potential clients ask ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity for a lawyer in your state, those assistants don't crawl the web—they query Wikidata and other structured knowledge graphs. Right now, only a tiny fraction of US law firms appear there. This post uses live data to show exactly how many firms (with an official website) are in Wikidata by state—and how you can be one of them.

Unlike traditional GEO tools that only monitor whether you show up, the breakthrough is getting into the graph in the first place: publishing your firm with location, practice areas, and contact details so AI can recommend you. Below we share the numbers; at the end, how to close the gap.

National totals

  • US law firms in Wikidata (with official website): 317
  • US law firms in Wikidata (total): 433
  • Global law firms with website: 815

Only states with at least one law firm (with website) in Wikidata are listed. Many states have zero—so the vast majority of US law firms are still missing from the knowledge graph that AI assistants query.

What this means for you

  • Concentration: A handful of states (Florida, California, Texas, New York, Georgia) account for most of the US law firms currently in Wikidata with a website. If your firm is in another state, you have even less in-graph competition—and a clearer "first in the graph" opportunity.
  • The gap is the opportunity: Hundreds of thousands of law firms exist in the US; 317 with a website in Wikidata is a tiny slice. The firms that get published with proper location (state, city) and practice areas are the ones AI can recommend.
  • For agencies: This state-level view is pitch-ready. "Here’s how many law firms in [state] are in the knowledge graph. We can get your client into that set—and recommended when people ask AI for a lawyer."

The GEO approach that actually creates visibility

Most "AI visibility" or GEO tools only measure whether you appear in ChatGPT or Perplexity. They don't put you there. GEMflush takes the opposite approach: we publish your firm directly to Wikidata—the same knowledge graph those assistants query—with 11+ structured properties (name, address, practice areas, website, contact, and more). Monthly updates keep your listing current. Once you're in the graph, you're in the pool of firms AI can recommend. That's knowledge graph engineering for GEO: fix the source, not just the dashboard.

Methodology

  • Law firm: instance of law firm (Q613142).
  • US: country = United States (P17=Q30).
  • With website: has official website (P856).
  • State: located in administrative territorial entity (P131) = state of the United States (Q35657).

Data as of March 2026. Numbers from SPARQL queries against the public Wikidata Query Service. Run pnpm tsx scripts/wikidata-legal-firm-coverage-stats.ts to refresh.
